Waste to energy or energy to waste ? which one is best?

What will happen if don?t care of waste disposal? The waste will accumulate and later it will spread diseases. Proper methods should be adopted for waste management.

Management of waste will be a big headache for those who are not aware of the ways to do it. Before discussing about the waste management processes and its effectiveness, we should know about different types of waste materials.

Types of waste

Decomposable waste from household and food are called garbage.
Combustible waste like paper, wood and cloths, and non-combustible waste like metal and glass pieces will come under the rubbish waste category.
Materials like chemicals, paints and residues of solid fuels from industries are called Industrial waste. Mining waste includes heap of slag and coal piles
Agriculture wastes are the crop residues and animal manure

Waste management methods

Some of the commonly followed waste management processes are integrated waste management, plasma gasification, landfill, incineration, and recycling.

Integrated waste management ? This is the commonly found waste recycling process.

In the waste management process the different materials are sorted out depending on the type. It can be glass, metal, chemicals, clothes or plastic materials. After sorting them out, the next step is to keep the materials separately for recycling process.

Plasma gasification - This is another type of waste disposal method. In this method a gasifier vessel is used to convert waste into a gaseous form. Both the solid and the liquid state waste will be put into the gasifier vessel.

The vessel will convert the waste into syngas. This particular process helps both in removing the waste and generating power in an environment friendly manner. In industries syngas is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of hydrogen and ammonia.

Landfill ? This is one of the oldest methods of waste management. House having vacant land use landfill method. In the method, the waste materials will be taken to a vacant place and bury it in a pit or trench. The waste will decompose as time passes. In such places the soil will be fertile. It can be used for gardening.

Incineration- The process of incineration involves the burning of waste materials. Incineration can give heat, steam, gas and ashes. This method is can be used to dispose harmful chemicals. Most of the hospitals are following this method. It can stop spreading of infections. Moreover, some hospitals have the practice of using the disposable items again and again. With this type of waste disposal method we can prevent them from reusing disposable items. Most of the industrial wastes are disposed using this method. Incineration method also produces heat. So we can call this process as thermal treatment. But incineration is a controversial method of waste disposal in some countries, since there is a chance for emission of certain poisonous gases. In countries like Japan, this the mostly used waste disposal method.

Recycling method ? This method is considered to be the best method of waste disposal. With this waste disposal method we can reuse the waste. Recycling method can be classified into four types. They are physical reprocessing, biological reprocessing, energy recovery and composting. In physical reprocessing, consumer products such as aluminum beverage cans, aerosol cans, pet jars, glass bottles and paperboard cartons are recycled to useful materials. Biological reprocessing is the recycling of plant, paper and food materials into organic matter. In composting method, aerobic microorganisms convert waste into organic materials. So many websites with connection from providers like Xfinity deals are giving detailed information about various waste disposal methods.
