P.M. Sabin Moore continues her AuthorHouse Author?s Digest blog series with her AuthorHouse UK review. In her second post she talks about her self-publishing experiences and how she is promoting her books, Storm Frost and Brightfire.???

The AuthorHouse Experience?
By P.M. Sabin Moore?????

Initially, I was an e-book novice, as some typos show? it would have been helpful to have the editorial aid which is now available. But the Cover Design team (I used my photos) were expert and the end-products are attractive, as people tell me.?

The Author Solutions team, the Publicity Advisors, the Marketing Managers, all have their expertise and I got used to dealing with a variety of people? though since the early days there have been thankfully fewer changes.?

It is obvious that the focus is mostly in the USA, not always relevant to a UK author! However, some provision has been made for Press Releases in UK cities, and I have had 3 radio interviews.?

Most newspapers have taken up my personal approaches to them. I hope to hear news of the next London Book Fair??! I bought into the Waterstones package- a UK chain.?

It is an expensive process, but I am currently awaiting the result of an approach from a Hollywood film/tv company, which would make a huge difference, if that dream comes true! Watch this space!??

I appreciate the advice given, about keeping your books in front of the public? but I am not (yet!) a millionaire. I pay when I can??

I don?t mind that? I did not write the books to make money, though I am thrilled by some extremely encouraging and independent reviews.?

The experience is like sending your children off into school, or the big world. May they thrive and be appreciated by those who encounter them! Even if they are bought on Kindle??

Long live bookshops!?

Micky Dolenz 'torn' over song in 'Breaking Bad'

By Shirley Halperin, The Hollywood Reporter

Dave J Hogan / Getty Images

Here?s a combination you probably never imagined coming together on television: beloved '60s pop-rock group The Monkees and many pounds of crystal meth.

Leave it to "Breaking Bad"?creator?Vince Gilligan?and the show?s music team to pair a montage of chemistry in action with the song ?Goin? Down,? the B-side to The Monkees' 1967 hit ?Daydream Believer.?

Spoiler alert: The scene was a key moment during Sunday?s episode, when Walter White (Bryan Cranston) essentially passed the torch to new prot?g? Todd (Jesse Plemons) in an all-night cook. The double-time, kick-in-the-step vocal styling of singer?Micky Dolenz?served as the soundtrack, and an unlikely one at that ??yet, strangely, it worked.

PHOTOS:?The Beatles to The Wanted: The Evolution of Boy Bands?

The sync lit up Twitter?s music-centric community and had the ?Monkee-net abuzz,? Dolenz, who sings ?Goin? Down,? tells? The Hollywood Reporter. Although the singer and drummer was on the road with?his solo show, he found out about the music cue almost instantly via the group?s Facebook fans. ?It?s one of my favorite Monkees songs,? he says. ?Great lyrics by the band and?Diane Hilderbrand. ? A very smart call.?

As it turns out, Dolenz is a fan of the AMC series, and for that reason, he says he?s ?a little torn? about the song?s use in the scene. " 'Goin? Down' has nothing to do with drugs, obviously," he tells?THR. ?And I certainly don't condone meth ??that is nasty stuff that kills a lot of people and ruins a lot of lives. ... On the other hand, I like the TV show, it's very well-made. ? And no, I didn't make a penny.?

Indeed, Dolenz won?t see much if any financial reward to the song?s use. Formed in concept as a made-for-TV group, at least originally, The Monkees' individual members forfeited rights to their recordings and image, which is one reason the band wasn?t informed of the placement ahead of time or asked for a sign-off.

VIDEO:?Davy Jones' Death: 5 Iconic Monkees Moments

?The record company controls the licensing and mechanicals for all the material that you do,? Dolenz explains. ?In movies and TV they don't even have to ask, unless you wrote the song. Like I had no idea ?I'm a Believer? was going to be in 'Shrek.' "

While the long-haired, beads-wearing and paisley-sporting Monkees were no strangers to an affiliation with psychedelics and marijuana (?I smoked my fair share,? Dolenz readily admits), the group?s co-founder insists creative endeavors like their 1968 movie "Head," written by?Bob Rafelson?and?Jack Nicholson, had a greater purpose than simply being an accompaniment to mind-altering drugs. ? 'Head'?was more about the deconstruction of the Hollywood big movie studio monopoly, using the Monkees metaphorically for attacking that system,? he says. ?It had more to do with the cerebral element.? That and leaving the door open for a second movie, so that the makers could say ?from the producers who gave you 'Head.' ?

Adds Dolenz, ?Like they say, any publicity is good publicity ??just spell the name right.? That?s Micky with no E.

What does the 4% withdrawal rule mean? - The Help Desk - CNN

Could you clarify the "4% withdrawal rule"? Does it mean that if I have $100,000 invested in bond funds, income funds, and such, I can count on it to generate an income of $4,000 annually, leaving the principal intact? ? Sam G.

Financial planners use the 4% withdrawal rule to estimate how big your nest egg should to be to meet your income needs in retirement. The rule as it's generally understood holds that you'll have an excellent chance of supporting a 30-year retirement with a portfolio that mixes stocks and bonds if you withdraw 4% of your assets your first retired year, then adjust for inflation in subsequent years.

It's a good rule of thumb ? but it doesn't always work, warns Brian Pon of Financial Connections in Corte Madera, Calif. He notes that the 4% rule is based on a range of historical returns, and there's no guarantee that stocks and bonds will perform as well in the future as they have in the past. The more bearish the market is in the first years you withdraw money, the worse are your chances of success.

Rather than rely on the 4% rule, says Pon, be prepared to withdraw less in years after the market drops.

Robert Pattinson, Katy Perry Dating: Rumor or Reality?

Well things haven?t calmed down at all when it comes to the R-Patz rumor mill. First, he was getting back with Kristen, then he wasn?t. Next he was hooking up with Reese Witherspoon, then he wasn?t. What?s next? Well, naturally another young celebrity is on the list. This one just abruptly ended a marriage, and even dated heartthrob John Mayer. I can see where she would be a likely target. The rumor has it that Pattinson and Perry sat down for an official date together. Some sites even claim to have text message evidence. GASP! The sites say that they met for a date in the SOHO district of New York City. As much as we would like to believe something like this, I have found out it isn?t true. The king of celebrity rumor denials, GossipCop, says that this is a totally ?pants of fire? lie. They point out specific things about the HollywoodLife article that originally posted the rumor. For example, the site says that they have a history together, which is actually just a normal friendship. Sure, Rob may have reached out to friends when the break-up happened. He may have even called up Katy to help [...]

How to Build a Facebook Presence that Delivers for Your Business ...

How can your small business get the most out of Facebook? During the judging phase of OPEN?s Big Break for Small Business? contest, I asked my fellow judges to talk about how business owners can use Facebook to promote their companies. Facebook?s Heather Freeland, Bonobos CEO Andy Dunn and ?SmallBizLady,? small business expert and best-selling author Melinda Emerson all had insights to share.

(Note: You can help choose this year?s Big Break winners by clicking on the ?Big Break for Small Business? tab on American Express OPEN?s Facebook page and casting your votes by August 31.)

How can business owners new to Facebook get the most from it?

Emerson: Start by creating a business page and posting status updates to it regularly. Share links to articles and your own blog entries, if you have a blog. Post thought-provoking questions along with the links to encourage fans to participate. Facebook is a great place to share visuals, so post photos and videos as much as possible.

Dunn: Remember to treat Facebook as a two-way conversation. If you?re self-serving, you?ll miss what social media is all about. At Bonobos, (a men?s clothing retailer), about 80 percent of what we say on our Facebook page isn?t self-promotional. We do quizzes, and we ask questions like ?What?s your response when someone says, ?Nice pants??? It?s the interaction that counts.

Freeland: I recommend using the Page Insights tool to better understand who your fans are and what type of content engages them most. It lets you see how many fans you reach with each post and how they respond?for example, by ?liking? your posts, commenting on them or sharing them. You can also use the information provided by this tool to target prospects who resemble your current fans, which can help expand your pool of contacts.

What are some effective examples of social media marketing on Facebook?

Freeland: Last year?s Big Break contest winners provided some terrific examples. Spoonflower, a custom fabric printing company holds weekly fabric-design competitions on its Facebook page. Designers ask their friends to vote for them, which builds awareness for the company. Another winner, Big Daddy?s Barbeque, brought its physical community online by printing ?Like us on Facebook? on receipts and handing out promotional cards with the same message outside churches and salons in their community. Relatively simple actions like these can be very effective.

Dunn: Integrate your website?s login with the Facebook Open Graph so your site experience ties seamlessly to the social graph. In addition, featuring limited-time offers on Facebook can amplify awareness via the social graph?allowing customers to share the deals within their networks.

Emerson: I like to use my SmallBizLady page on Facebook to highlight special fans. Each month, I choose a fan to write a guest post on my blog and then promote the post on Facebook. If I have a photo of the fan, I?ll post it as well. It?s an excellent way to give a shout-out, and the fan is thrilled. This is one of the methods I use to generate traffic to my blog from Facebook.

Bonobos has seen great success with Facebook advertising. Could you describe your approach?

Dunn: Facebook ads have been a fantastic source of customers for us. When you launch a brand, you?re trying to create demand for a brand that doesn?t exist in customers? minds yet. Facebook?s highly personalized display ads give you a powerful way to do this.

Our core customers are 18- to 40-year-old men who are active and like to play sports. Many of them live in New York, California, Illinois, Boston, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. Facebook allows us to distribute ads directly to this group. We can also run several different campaigns and analyze the responses. Based on the results, we decide which campaigns we?ll invest in further and which ones we?ll retire.

What advice would you give to a business owner who has tried marketing on Facebook but hasn?t yet seen strong results?

Emerson: Try again and really focus your efforts. You need to know who your target audience is and provide them with helpful content on a daily basis. Inconsistent and undisciplined social media marketing efforts won?t pay off.

Freeland: Building an effective Facebook presence takes time. Look into resources that can help you make the most of your business page, such as the Facebook Marketing Classroom and the Facebook Marketing page. These resources provide wonderful tools, tips and webinars to help you optimize results. You can also build your knowledge of the basics of Facebook by taking the OPEN Forum Crash Course, Facebook for Your Business.

I hope these tips have given you inspiration for marketing your company using Facebook. Stay tuned for my next blog post, where I?ll talk with the Big Break judges once again for more tips on using social media to attract and engage customers. Looking for additional resources to build your online presence and grow your business? Explore American Express OPEN?s Shop Small toolkit.

American Express OPEN and Facebook are giving five small business owners a Big Break for their business and community. Winners will get $25,000 to help grow their business and drive customers to their door, plus a one-on-one strategy session with American Express OPEN and Facebook to put it all into action. Additionally, the winners? communities will get statement credit offers for American Express Cardmembers who spend at area merchants that accept American Express Cards during one weekend in September. Voting for the five winners will take place from August 20, 2012 through August 31, 2012 on facebook.com/OPEN.

SIDELINES: Special Olympics shows us the real power of sports

    By CASEY OLSON
    Federal Way Mirror Sports editor
    August 23, 2012 ? Updated 4:33 PM?

Special Olympics are sports at its purest form. It?s an organization all about real, true sports, and ultimately using the power of sports as a vehicle to inspire and change lives.

As a sports reporter for the last umpteen years and as the father of kids participating in youth sports, I have seen the dark side from parents, coaches and kids.

The ?fun? of playing sports as a youngster is sometimes taken away from the kids. Too many parents are pushing their kids too hard for the ever-elusive college scholarship and certain ?select? coaches are making fake promises regarding those scholarships.

I will let you in on a little secret. If your kid is good enough at a certain sport, they will get to continue their athletic career in college. It makes zero difference to a college coach how many articles have been in the newspaper or what ?select? team they played for when they were 10 years old.

All that drama is meaningless to Special Olympics athletes. They could care less about bad calls from a referee, only making the junior varsity or not getting their name in the newspaper.

They just go out on the field with a smile on their face and play the game how it?s supposed to be played ? for the fun of it. It?s awesome to see.

Last weekend, I had the absolute honor of attending a Special Olympics fundraiser hosted by the Equinox Business Law Group in Bellevue, which honored teams from Federal Way and Bellevue.

If you didn?t know, the Special Olympics is an international non-profit organization dedicated to empowering individuals with special needs to become physically fit, productive and instill in them a sense of accomplishment and a competitive spirit.

According to the Special Olympics website, ?children and adults with special needs who participate in Special Olympics develop improved physical fitness and motor skills, greater self-confidence and a more positive self-image. They grow mentally, socially and spiritually and, through their activities, exhibit boundless courage and enthusiasm, enjoy the rewards of friendship and ultimately discover not only new abilities and talents but ?their voices? as well.?

In short, the Special Olympics strive for everything that?s great about sports. They teach actual life lessons. Stuff like how to work as a team, leadership, don?t ever give up despite the score, and being a good winner and a good loser, among thousands of other things.

The best moments of the fundraiser came when a pair of Special Olympians got up enough courage to share their stories with the crowd, which isn?t a small undertaking.

One of those speeches came from Auburn High School senior-to-be Tyler May, who brought down the house with his passionate backing of the Special Olympics. May described how his participation in Special Olympics has changed his life and given him the confidence he lacked before signing up.

?I can now look people in the eyes when I talk to them,? he said.

The autistic May was featured in the Auburn Reporter last year after he won the Special Olympics state golf championship and then made the Auburn Trojans? varsity golf team.

Growing up, Tyler participated and did well in other sports, such as Little League baseball and soccer. It was all part of the family?s efforts to make Tyler?s life as normal as possible, to treat his autism without giving in to it.

Eventually the hectic pace of the games and the noise made it difficult for Tyler to enjoy the sports.

That?s when Tyler turned to golf.

?He?s been hitting balls since he was 7, but I couldn?t take him on the golf course because of his disability and anger management issues,? his father, Tom May, said. ?It just wasn?t appropriate for me to take him out there.?

In May 2010, however, Tom figured Tyler was ready and signed him up as a member of the Jade Green?s Men?s Club, just down the road from their home.

That?s when things took off for Tyler.

?It was pretty tough at first. The coach told my teammates about my disability, so they understood what was going on,? Tyler said. ?They are probably the best teammates to play with. They are really very kind people.?

?Every time he comes out to the golf course, it?s therapy for him,? Tom said. ?His therapy never stops.?

That?s some pretty powerful stuff and quite a testimonial for the benefits of Special Olympics and sports in general.

Federal Way has always been on the cutting edge of allowing students with disabilities to participate in sports. Federal Way Public Schools is one of a few districts in the state that offers students with disabilities a chance to get out and play. There are currently about 100 student-athletes participating each season.

The program is free for students attending kindergarten through 12th grade within the district. Participants build self-esteem and fitness while gaining the opportunity to participate in an extracurricular activity at school and meet new people. Federal Way offers bowling, basketball, soccer and track.

For more information about the district?s Special Olympics athletic programs, contact Sharon Boyle at (253) 945-5576 or email sboyle@fwps.org. To learn more about Special Olympics in Washington, visit specialolympicswashington.org. You can also make donations to the organization through the website.

Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle Review - fitness and health

This is my Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle Review - drop your comments after read please!?This fat burning method has been an Internet best seller since 2002, which means it's now approaching it's 10th year in a row of international popularity. The book by Tom Venuto, is a highly popular fitness program (it has been one of the most popular fat loss programs?online for almost 10 years), used by millions of people around the world (men and women of all ages in over 141 countries have lost anywhere from a few pounds to 253 pounds using BFFM). And here's a reason why...

My Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle Review

First of all, this program has earned a reputation for being so effective, that many people achieve six pack abs and very low body fat for the first time in their lives where other programs had failed them...?This is also the ONLY program created by a bodybuilder that's based on 20 years of results for regular people.

Secondly, what makes Burn The Fat Feed The Muscle?different is the amount of attention that is paid to each and every element of successful, healthy, permanent fat loss. BFFM not only thoroughly dispels the lies, myths and fallacies surrounding a very confusing subject, it is simply the most detailed book about fat loss ever written.

    Who is Tom Venuto?

The author, Tom Venuto has been featured on hundreds of websites as well as in magazines such as Natural Bodybuilding & Fitness, Ironman, Men?s Exercise and Men?s Fitness. Tom is also the author of a hardcover national best-seller, The Body Fat Solution (Penguin/Avery books). There was even a blurb about his latest book in Oprah Magazine.?Tom Venuto, a respected fat loss expert, natural bodybuilder, and personal trainer, has not just pumped out yet another "diet program" into an already over-saturated market.?Although Tom admits that he was never obese, he says he always struggled with stomach fat and never saw his abs until he?d gone through many years of trial and error and a lot of hard work.?I found this article "The Bikini Body Transformation" (Aka, "How To Look Hot On The Beach") click here to learn more about what is STILL the best way on the planet to get a body as lean as Bruce Lee ;)

    What's included?

Initially, some people thought that Burn the Fat was priced a little on the high side because $39 might seem like a fair chunk of money for an ebook download. However, after they saw the amount of information contained within Burn The Fat's 340 pages, along with the special bonus ebooks and reports that come with it, they said it was not only worth the $39, but many times that amount.?You'll also receive these FREE bonus books:
The best part is: The NEW Bonus package that comes with BFFM now includes a 60 day membership to the Burn the Fat Inner Circle, which has?built a reputation for being the premier fat loss support community on the Internet.

    I found people's testimonials here:

Expand Rosters NFL, add DE Saints

Did you know this year the NFL will place a certified person in the booth in every game-day stadium whose only job is to look for a player exhibiting signs of a possible head injury, whereupon that player will be removed from the game and evaluated?

I overheard Pat Kirwin discussing this. It appears that if a player shows any symptoms of concussion, he will not be allowed to return to the game. This is a direct result of the concussion lawsuits levied against the NFL this off-season. Kirwin said the NFL should expand both the 53 man roster and the 46 man game-day roster.

Most teams typically have 7 offensive linemen active on gameday -- the 5 starters, a swing tackle, and a swing inside guy. If by halftime, two linemen have their bell rung, you're coming out the lockerroom with zero depth. Many players have said that they have their bell rung about 5 times a game-- not a concussion, just a hard hit that dazes you for a second or three. I played DE, DT, and TE in high school. I can tell you that in that first step on the snap, when DE meets T, or DT meets G, that collision is violent enough at the high school level to make your head hurt if you're playing across from someone worth his salt. In the NFL, everyone is worth their salt, and the collisions are exponentially more violent-- and that's not even counting the full speed collisions away from the LOS.

The point is that if the NFL is going to err on the safe side and pull players from the game for the duration of the game, the rosters need expansion. It's hard enough fielding depth with the limitations already in place.

Speaking of depth, the Saints should really consider throwing their hat in the free agent tour for Andre Carter and or James Hall. Carter had 10 sacks after finally going back to a 4-3 team last year before suffering his first significant knee injury. He looks to be healthy, and like last year will probably sign a one year deal at veteran minimum. Hall played under Spags and already knows the defense. If, as Vitt alluded, Martez Wilson is temporarily going back to LB due to the depth issues there, adding a bonafide pass rusher at DE is a no-brainer with Will Smith potentially missing the first month. For a team that doesn't get 40 sacks a season, it should be a no brainer period.

Wilson is staying at DE, see below:

Also, as it pertains to Carter, the Rams signed Vernon Gholston over him, that's saying a LOT. Reports are Carter has no burst and isn't nearly recovered from his injury. I don't have any news on James Hall, but if we haven't brought him in thus far, then something must be up with him. I think we are fine at DE at the moment. Sooner or later, we are going to have to depend on our young talent. We need to find out what we have, that won't happen with a vet coming in taking all the snaps and reps....

If anyone is curious this is the protocol:

    Quote:

NFL team medical personnel will use this season a new standardized sideline concussion assessment protocol, the NFL Head, Neck and Spine Committee announced Friday. The announcement was made in Indianapolis at the NFL Combine by Dr. Margot Putukian, member of NFL Head, Neck and Spine Committee and chair of the Return-to-Play Subcommittee.

Developed by the subcommittee in response to a team medical staff survey conducted last season, the new protocol combines a symptom checklist, a limited neurological examination including a cognitive evaluation, and a balance assessment. It uses as a foundation many components of the sideline tool developed by the Concussion in Sport group that most recently met in Zurich in 2008. It was developed by the NFL Head, Neck, and Spine Committee, with input from the NFLPA and its medical advisors, NFL team physicians, athletic trainers and their professional societies, and other medical experts.
