Toluca beats Santos Laguna to take Mexican lead

MEXICO CITY (AP) -Toluca defeated reigning champions Santos Laguna 4-1 on Sunday to take the Mexican league lead with just three rounds remaining.

Tijuana is in second place, level on points with Toluca but behind on goal difference, after drawing 2-2 against Cruz Azul on Friday. Leon remains third despite losing 2-1 to America on Saturday.

In other games, Tigres defeated Pumas 5-0, Pachuca drew 1-1 with Monterrey, Morelia won 2-1 against Queretaro, San Luis overcame Atlas 3-2, Jaguares defeated Puebla 2-0 and Atlante won 3-1 against Chivas.

Wilson Matias and Antonio Rios put Toluca two goals up before Edgar Benitez was sent off in the 31st minute for a reckless challenge.

Panama's Luis Tejada set himself up for an overhead kick to extend the lead in the 65th, with Lucas Silva of Brazil wrapping up the scoring in the 77th.

Oribe Peralta got playoff-challenging Santos Laguna*s only goal in the 69th.

The league*s top goalscorer Christian Benitez tapped in three minutes from the end to give America the victory.

Leon took the lead when Nelson Maz headed in after halftime, before Christian Bermudez equalized in the 77th.

Alberto Acosta scored twice in the first half and once in the second for Tigres to complete his hat trick.

Marco Palacios put the ball into his own net for Tigres* first in the 20th, with Elias Hernandez getting the team*s fifth in the 82nd.

Angel Reyna put Monterrey into the lead in the 2nd, before Felix Borja for Pachuca equalized four minutes after halftime.

An injury time header from Miguel Sabah won the three points for Morelia to cancel out Diego Vera*s 52nd minute equalizer for Queretaro.

Joao Rojas had put Morelia ahead in the 52nd.

Colombian Santiago Trellez got San Luis* winning goal against Atlas in the 82nd.

Hector Mancilla had put Atlas ahead in the 25th, before goals either side of halftime from Emanuel Cerda and an own goal by Facundo Erpen gave San Luis the lead.

Mancilla added his second in the 66th.

Jaguares two goals both came in the second half, the first from Leiton Jimenez in the 47th and the second from Jorge Rodriguez in injury time.

Two goals from Esteban Paredes and one from Cristian Maidana put Atlante 3-0 up at halftime against Chivas.

Marco Fabian pulled one back for Chivas from the penalty spot one minute from fulltime.
